As a new mom, one of my favorite ways to shop now is online or through catalogs. It's easier than loading all the baby stuff into the car, and I can have everything delivered right to my house. What could be better? Of the catalogs I've shopped from, the Bliss Out catalog from Bliss Spa in New York City is by far my favorite. For a cosmetic junkie like me, it's a dream-come-true selection of some of the most coveted brands around, like Remede, Tony & Tina, Molton Brown, and Astara. It's all I can do to not spend hundreds of dollars with each new catalog! I've had my eye on Astara Conscious Skin Care for quite a while. Their small collection of botanical products includes a lightweight gel cleanser, superfine facial scrub, several antioxidant moisturizers, and two masks that I couldn't resist during my last Bliss stock-up: Blue Flame Purification, and Violet Flame Enzyme. If you have breakout-prone skin, Blue Flame ($26 for a 2.2 ounce jar) is a great once-a-week clay mask. Made with lemongrass, rosemary, aloe vera gel, and tea tree oil, this mask is supposed to eliminate bacteria to hopefully help keep pimples at bay. It also smooths the skin with a light scrubbing action. Whether it really reduces bacteria is anybody's guess, but I like how fresh and smooth my skin looks after using Blue Flame, and it does a great job of drawing the oil out from any pimples you currently have. It's a little spendy, but a nice treat if you do at-home facials frequently. Sensitive skin beware - the Violet Flame mask ($29 for a 2.2 ounce jar) is strong stuff! Two kinds of clay combined with extracts of rosemary, comfrey, ginseng, and chamomile, plus papaya and pineapple enzymes make your skin feel like it's being vacuumed! It doesn't work miracles, but if your skin looks dull and feels in need of renewal, this mask is nice to add to your at-home spa experience. In light of our new feature for January on lip gloss (see below), I couldn't resist trying a few new ones myself. Bloom Aromatherapy Lip Gloss from Australia was an easy choice. The conditioning, color rich formula comes in 6 shades: pucker, pout, pash, smirk, smack, and smooch. I chose pucker, a sultry burgundy brown, and pout, a light brownish pink. Bloom gloss has that great sticky quality that makes it stick around (no pun intended!) for longer than one cup of coffee. They even taste good from a blend of mandarin and vanilla essential oils. Yum! For more information on these and other products from hard-to-find lines, Bliss Spa is located online at http://www.blissworld.com, by phone at 1-888-243-8825, or in New York City at 568 Broadway (a must-stop during any trip to the city).
