Cosmetics are my life (grin), so I am always surfing around online, looking for new and interesting cosmetics, skin care, and bath products. I recently stumbled across a great little specialty bath company called Destiny's Darlin', and I couldn't resist trying a few of their goodies. The folks at Destiny's Darlin' make all-natural bath products like bath explosives, shower gels, and foot tabbies in unique and intriguing fragrances like Tahitian Vanilla, Fancy Pants, and TEAse Me, I'm Green (green tea). With scents like this, and such reasonable prices, where would I begin?
Shower Gel in "heavenly" ($12 for 8 ounces)
As many of you know, I am not a big perfume fan. Most smell too flowery, too powdery, or too musky for my taste. One of the few mainstream scents that I like is "Angel" by Thierry Mugler; it smells like anything but flowers (it doesn't even contain any). Imagine my glee when I discovered "heavenly" and it smells exactly like Angel! The fragrance of this shower gel is, well, heavenly! I was a little disappointed at the cleansing/lathering power, though.
It lathered, but then quickly disappeared so I had to keep adding more gel to my puff. I love the scent, but I have to give the gel itself 3 out of 5 stars.
Bath Salts in "better than chocolate" ($3.75 per cup)
I love to take warms baths whenever I can, and I always like some sort of bubbles, salts, or powder to make it interesting. Plain warm water is so boring! If you are chocolate lover, you may get carried away with a bath full of these intoxicating "better than chocolate" bath salts. They don't bubble or foam, but they do make the water, and your skin, really soft and lightly perfumed, if you consider smelling like a homemade brownie being "perfumed"! Yum! I liked these bath salts very much and readily give them 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Bath Explosive in "rosemary mint" ($4 for regular "flying saucer", $6 for large "shooting star")
I love fizzing bath tablets for the great fragrances and fun bubbles that make my ordinary tub feel like a mini-jacuzzi. My rosemary mint bath explosive gently fizzed for a few minutes, releasing a soft, subtle fragrance and luxurious oils into the water. I felt completely relaxed and moisturized after just 10 minutes in the tub. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
I am always looking for skin care that works well and cares for my normal to dry, sensitive, and acne-prone skin without irritation or excessive drying. I've been curious about just how effective and different some of the lines created for sensitive skin are, so I decided to try the newest line from Avon, Calming Effects for Sensitive Skin.
Sensitive Skin Cleanser ($9.50 for 6.7 ounce tube)
For sensitive skin that is also a bit on the dry side, this soap-free lotion cleanser feels soothing, removes makeup easily (even eye makeup), and leaves the skin lightly conditioned. It does contain olive, safflower, and soybean oils, which make makeup removal easy, but beware if you are oily or very acne-prone. I give this cleanser 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Sensitive Skin Toner ($9.50 for 6.7 ounces)
Many sensitive skins can't tolerate the burning and stinging from most toners. Calming Effects Toner is a welcome change - no irritating alcohol or witch hazel, but instead soothing green tea, chamomile, sweet almond oil, lavender, and algae extract. This is a great fragrance-free toner for any skin type that I give 5 out of 5 stars.
Sensitive Skin Lotion ($10.50 for 1.7 ounce pump)
For combination or slightly oily but sensitive skin, or if you like a lighter moisturizer for summer use, Calming Effects Lotion is a very lightweight fluid that helps soothe irritated skin with rosemary, algae, lavender, and chamomile extracts. For a nice lightweight moisturizer (but unfortunately no sunscreen), Calming Effects lotion earns 4 out of 5 stars.
Sensitive Skin Creme ($10.50 for 1.7 ounce jar)
For dry skin, or for heavier nighttime use (again, no sunscreen), Calming Effects Creme has all the same soothing benefits as the lotion in a heavier, creamier base. This creme is a real treat for skin that's very dry and irritated. I give it 4 of 5 stars.
For all those transfer-resistant and long-wearing makeup formulas we all seem to be wearing these days, Estee Lauder has introduced Eye and Lip Makeup Remover for LongWear Formulas ($14.50 for 3.4 ounces). I've been less than thrilled with some other brands' removers, like Clinique Take The Day Off (painful stinging) and Avon Perfect Wear (really oily), so I hoped EL's would be different. Turns out it's a great makeup remover that doesn't sting or burn, and it's not overly oily. For my sensitive eyes, this remover is a real winner, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
