Just when I think I've reviewed everything new there is to try, something comes along to make my makeup testing adventures a little more interesting. For the first time in more than ten years, I was re-introduced to the Jafra skin care and cosmetics line this week; when I was young, my mom had a Jafra skin care party at our house for all her friends. I remember the smell of their Royal Jelly cream like it was yesterday! Jafra is a consultant-based company much like Avon, Mary Kay, or BeautiControl, and it was one very friendly Jafra consultant who graciously offered to send me a selection of samples. This week I bring you my findings on some of their color cosmetics.
Supertone Moisturizing Makeup SPF 6 ($11.75) (3.5 out of 5 stars) Since alabaster was the closest to my skin color, I road tested it for wearability, and I really liked it. The texture is smooth, creating a flawless finish without feeling heavy or thick. The name may say "moisturizing", but the formula would work well for normal, combination, or slightly dry skin. This foundation is worth a try, just make sure you try on several colors before you buy.
Time Perfector Lipstick ($10) (4.5 out of 5 stars)
Classic Long-Lasting Lipstick ($7.50) (4 out of 5 stars)
Lip Gloss ($7) (3.5 out of 5 stars)
OptiMascara ($7) (2.5 out of 5 stars) For more information on Jafra, or to find a consultant near you, call 1-800-551-2345. In a continuing effort to control my occasional stress and hormone related breakouts, I decided to try Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin Acne Treatment ($5.80) with 1.5% salicylic acid and glycolic acid. What a difference! After using this lotion every morning for three weeks, my skin looks clearer and I haven't had any new breakouts. Unlike most acne treatments that are designed for teenagers, Neutrogena made this lotion gentle and less drying for adult skin that may not be oily. If you suffer from mild adult acne, Multi-Vitamin Acne Treatment is worth a try, earning 4.5 out of 5 stars. At the end of a long day, or after a late night with friends, my eyes always look worn out, puffy, and just plain pooped. Using an eye gel usually helps a little, but this week I found something that is truly cooling and refreshing - Andrea Eye Q Stress Relief Eye Masks (at drugstores for around $4 for a box of 4 treatments). Just open the foil wrapper, take out the two pre-soaked pads, place them under your eyes, and relax for 15 minutes. The pads have a cooling gel liquid that depuffs and refreshes like magic. For the ultimate cooling treatment, I like to keep mine in the 'fridge. These are great, and cheap, so I give them 5 out of 5 stars. The Makeup Diva is in! If you've ever considered buying one of those cellulite creams, be sure to read this week's Ask The Makeup Diva column for a revealing look at what they can really do.
