English Ideas
report by Marissa of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

I first heard of English Ideas when I went to a spa on Newbury Street in Boston and the make-up artist told me that my make-up was all wrong. Now, I thought I looked pretty good, but he told me it looked like I did my makeup in the car…which I did…so I think he must have been next to me at the traffic light! Anyway, he recommended a lipstick and lip pencil that I used for years. So when Heather gave me the chance to review other English Idea products, I was very enthusiastic. Unfortunately, I can't say after trying all the different products I was still riding high. While some were right up at the top of the list, others didn't fair so well.

English Ideas Liquid Foundation - this foundation is an oil-free formula that has an SPF of 15. The package says full coverage, and it did give me pretty good coverage over the redness in my checks and chin. It went on smooth and looked rather dewy, but the color was totally wrong for me. Way too light and rosy for my skin tone. I'm not sure I would buy it in the right color ($30.00) because it didn't knock my socks off, but it did provide the coverage it claimed it would.

English Ideas Perfect Powder - is a talc-free pressed powder with an SPF of 15. Made with 8 essential minerals…I don't think the minerals did anything for my skin, but hey…it was a nice pressed powder…got rid of the shine and kept it at bay for most of the day. Again, not anything to write home about, but it did its job.

English Ideas Lip Works Lip Balm - this lip balm has an SPF of 18 (very good). I tried the tea tree oil lip balm, which I have to say has a bit of a tea tree oily smell to it, as well as a slight taste. However, it did leave my lips nice and soft and since I'm concerned about sun damage, I like the fact that this has an SPF. Also, I'm a big believer in the healing properties of tea tree oil, so this was a winner with me. Lip Balm comes in 4 varieties: concealer, hint of color, grapefruit and tea tree oil.

English Ideas Brow Enhance and English Ideas Brow Last - all I can say is that I used them once and couldn't bring myself to use them again. The Brow Enhance claims to adjust to any brow color, but was WAY to dark for my eyebrows, and I'm a brunette this month! The Brow Last ended up clumping on my eyebrows and gave me the look of someone with a skin condition as it took to turning white and peeling from my eyebrows. Needless to say, I'm not a fan.

English Ideas Lip Enhance - this nude lip enhancer claims to make lips fuller and more even. I liked this product, but didn't see my lips looking any bigger. It did do a nice job of helping my lipstick stay on longer, but I was really hoping for bigger lips! Alas, Mick Jagger I was not!

English Ideas Liner Last - this was my favorite product in the whole collection! The first time I tried this, I didn't let it dry before I rubbed my eyes, and got my liner smeared all over me. The second time I tried this, I let it dry and it worked all day and even all night! My husband and I went to a 50th birthday party and when I came home I was so tired, that I fell asleep with my clothes and make-up still on. (Yes, I know that's a BIG NO NO, but I was really tired!) In the morning when I woke up, my eyeliner was still perfect!!! This is a definite keeper for me! It worked on cream eyeliner and it also worked the following day with a pencil. Love this product!!!

English Ideas products are available at Sephora and at the beautyrose website.
