Kiehl's

I must say that I was thrilled when Heather asked me to review Kiehl's products, as I have had much luck with these products in the past. I use a couple of the products in the summer when my skin is more normal to oily. I'm a huge fan of Kiehl's and of their policy, which is to always sample the
products before buying to make sure you have the right products for your skin. I always try to visit the "mobbed" store in NYC when I'm in town and can always count on friendly, helpful service.
Since I have been traveling quite a bit the past 2 months, my skin, which is usually normal to dry in the winter, has become quite dehydrated as well. Although there are a couple of stores that sell Kiehl's products in the Washington, D.C., area, I decided to call Kiehl's at their 1-800-Kiehls-1 phone number to speak to a consultant about the recommended products for my skin. I then went to a boutique-type store that stocks the Kiehl's line to get my samples. The products recommended for my skin were:
- Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Cleanser
- Kiehl's Calendula Toner
- Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF13 (for daytime)
- Kiehl's Panthenol Protein Moisturizing Face Cream (for night)
- Kiehl's Imperiale Repairateur Treatment Line Formula Moisturizing Masque (a couple times per week at night)
Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Facial Cleaner
This cleanser is recommended for Dry to Normal and Sensitive skin types. It is a creamy cleanser designed to be rinsed off. The directions on the bottle also say to remove all residual
cleanser with a washcloth. It is indeed a creamy cleanser that I found very soothing to my dehydrated skin. At night I used the cleanser by applying to a dry face in circular motions and then rinsed and used a washcloth very gently to remove leftover cleanser, which ended up not being much. It also seemed to remove my makeup without a problem. In the morning, I did not remove
it with a washcloth. I found this cleanser to be so wonderful for my normal to dry/dehydrated skin. I noticed immediately a difference in my skin's look and feel. I actually purchased this product and highly recommend giving it a try.
Kiehl's Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner - Alcohol Free
I usually go through phases of using and not using a toner. This toner was very gentle on my skin without any irritation; however, I felt this product wasn't that different than many of the other non-alcoholic toners on the market. The price was a different story, costing $19.95 for only 4oz.
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 13
This is a great lightweight moisturizer with a sunscreen. Even though my skin is on the dry side in the winter, I always have a problem with daytime is moisturizer went on very lightly, but once on the skin felt very moisturizing. I have successfully used this product now for 4 days without breaking out and would recommend checking this one out. My only "beef" with this product is an SPF 13 rating - why not SPF 15, which is usually the recommended SPF for daytime use?
Kiehl's Panthenol Protein Moisturizing Facial Cream
Since I have been using a AHA product faithfully at night for the past few weeks, I decided to use this Kiehl's product over the top. I applied my AHA, waited 20 minutes, and then applied the Kiehl's product. The Panthenol Moisturizer is a very emollient and heavy feeling moisturizer, which would be great for someone with dry skin. This product really helped my dehydrated skin, but I think it would be too heavy for everyday use after my skin gets back to its normal self.
Kiehl's Imperial Repairateur Treatment Formula Moisturizing Masque
I used this product three times, alternating with the Panthenol Moisturizer. It is recommended to use as a masque - apply and tissue off any excess. The Kiehl's consultant told me instead to try it as a night moisturizer since my skin was so dehydrated. It was light going on but very very emollient and felt a little greasy after about 20 minutes. However, this product did not break my skin out and definitely made an immediate difference in my skin's dry/flaky appearance. I would consider buying this product to use maybe once a week in the winter as a hydrating masque.
After using these products, I really have noticed a big change in my skin. It is no longer flaky and definitely not as dehydrated. My skin is also surprisingly clear of breakouts, even with using such emollient products.
There are so many Kiehl's products that you definitely need to talk to a representative before making a purchase. Also, make sure to sample the products first, which is actually Kiehl's policy. When ordering a product from Kiehl's, you can also request samples of any of their other products.
