DHC Fresh Cleansing Gel
report by Denise of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

DHC is a skincare line that I've never been very impressed with. Aside from the mild cleansing soap, which I thought was just "OK," all of their products seem too heavy and oily for my skin. Of course, that could have something to do with the fact that DHC has got an entire line of facial products that are primarily olive-oil based. But, I digress. I tried the Fresh Cleansing Gel from DHC, and was hoping for a more positive result, as the description of the product totes it as, "truly refreshing skin bathing." Not so, at least as far as I was concerned. The first time I used the gel, I applied it as I would my usual facial cleanser: I wet my face first, and then applied the DHC gel to my face in a circular motion with my fingertips. Right off the bat, I was somewhat disappointed that it was not a foaming cleanser. I've got this hang up about non-foaming cleansers. For some reason, I think that if it's not foaming even a little bit, it's not working. I tried to rinse the gel off of my face, and it didn't rinse well at all. My face was left feeling oily and just generally icky. ONLY THEN did I read the product page on the DHC website and realize that you are supposed to apply the cleansing gel to surface-dry skin and then wipe off with a cloth or a tissue. Ohhhhhhhhh! In my own defense, this little mishap wasn't entirely my fault, since the directions on the tube of cleansing gel that I have at home are entirely in Japanese, which I haven't quite mastered yet. So, I gave the gel another shot, with not much better results, unfortunately. Even after thoroughly wiping the gel from my face, I still felt as if I had an oily layer on my skin. Maybe that feeling was a result of the high glycerin content in the cleansing gel. I'm not sure. It is likely that the whole DHC skincare line would work much better for someone with very dry or mature skin. DHC's Fresh Cleansing Gel is not a product that I'll be adding to my skin care regimen anytime soon.
