Laura Mercier
report by Connie of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
I've read about Laura Mercier numerous times in INSTYLE Magazine. She was
the makeup artist for Madonna on Evita. I had to try her product line! I
found Mercier sold at Neiman Marcus. You can also purchase her products
from lauramercier.com. The nice thing about being at the store was
testing the products on my skin before I purchased them. It was also fun
hearing the sales person tell me the Laura Mercier "no make up, make up
look" philosophy.
Foundation Primer ($27)
The makeup artist told me that you apply this first before your foundation and it makes the foundation last longer throughout the day. It also acts as a filler so that your makeup does not absorb into your pores. Now, this had hustle written all over it to me. But, I bought it and I am glad I did. I like this product! It is a light moisturizer that comes in a tube and it has a gel like feel to it. It absorbs quickly on your face and when I use it my make up does look better and lasts longer.
Moisturizing Foundation in Warm Ivory ($38)
This comes in a glass bottle with a pump. This is by far the best foundation I have ever used. It goes on light and blends beautifully. I was never a big foundation person before I tried this product. Now I do not wear makeup without it. It smoothes out the skin and matches really well to my skintone. A little goes a long way.
Secret Concealer ($18)
This is a great concealer and matches my skintone well. Blends extremely well and hides dark circles like you would not believe. It is thick, not runny like others that I have tried, but not greasy. It comes in a small eyeshadow-like twist top container. My only complaint is I wish she would give us a bit more product :). Other than that it's a great, and I mean great, concealer.
Lip Gloss in Raspberry Glace ($18)
I am not a big fan of lip gloss - I prefer matte lipcolor, so this was a stretch for me. It is a thick gloss and does not bleed. It is really shiny and has great color. If you are lip gloss fan, this may be a good buy for you. It has a good amount of staying power and does not come off easy.
Translucent Loose Powder ($30)
This is a light powder with excellent coverage. It sets my foundation and concealer beautifully and is my number one favorite powder. It is so sheer and light - I love it! Great Buy and a must have for me. If you have normal to oily skin this has great staying powder. I don't have to reapply until late afternoon, it really helps to control shine and gives me a porcelain, clean-skin look.
Pressed Powder in Beige ($28)
If you are going to go for a powder product in her line, get the loose powder. The pressed is nice, but for the price there might be better out there. The sales woman sold me on Beige but I still feel it is too dark for my skin and a bit orange.
Bronzing Powder ($30)
This comes with two shades of bronzer and should be applied sparingly. This powder has a nice texture to it and blends well. It has a little shine to it, but I like that in a bronzer. This is a good bronzer, but my favorite is still by Guerlain (you can't beat their color).
Velour Puff ($12)
This is a great powder puff and works wonderfully with loose powders. It is soft and does not fall apart after you wash it. It rolls nicely on the face and bends well. Really good buy. If you like loose powder you will like using this puff for application.
Overall, I really liked her products and did not mind paying the price. I
plan on continuing to use most of them.
