Laura Mercier Skin Care
report by Maria of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

I have been wanting to try Laura Mercier's skin care line for quite a while now, so I jumped at the chance to review the products for Cosmetic Connection. This is not my first time trying this line. About a year ago, I stopped by the Laura Mercier counter to buy a tube of Just Lips lipstick (a beautiful, natural shade for almost any skin tone) and a makeup artist persuaded me to sit down and try on some colors. Although I pride myself on being able to resist most cosmetics sales pitches, I ended up buying most of the products the makeup artist applied to my face! In my own defense, Mercier offers a beautiful array of lip colors, eye shadows, and blushers and her Oil-Free Foundation is absolutely sublime! How could I resist?

I was a little wary of trying Mercier's skin care line. After all, I thought, what would a makeup artist know about skin care formulations? Well, my worries were for naught because they really are good, basic products. The sales woman told me that the products are appropriate for all skin types, but I believe they really are better suited for normal to dry skin types. (Sensitive skins will be happy to hear that all of the skin care products are fragrance free.) If you are interested in trying Laura Mercier skin care, and aren't bothered by the high prices, visit her Web site at LauraMercier.com or call (888) MERCIER.

One Step Cleanser ($35 for 8 ounces)
This is a very gentle, non-foaming cleanser/toner-in-one that does a pretty good job of removing makeup. It was neither greasy nor drying but, since I have extremely oily skin, my face didn't feel fresh and clean after using the cleanser (I need to use a foaming cleanser to help remove the excess oil from my face). Although it's not the best cleanser for my skin type, I would still recommend this product for drier or sensitive skins.

Moisturizer Cream with SPF 15 ($38 for 2 ounces)
Because of my oily skin, I normally do not need a moisturizer and I was afraid that this one would be too heavy. I was very surprised to find that this is a relatively lightweight cream that didn't leave my skin feeling greasy, nor did it cause breakouts. And, since it contains an effective sunscreen, I will definitely continue to use this moisturizer on those rare days when my skin is on the dry side.

Mega Moisturizer Cream with SPF 15 ($38 for 2 ounces)
This moisturizer is very similar in feel to the above product, but just a bit heavier. The cream doesn't feel overly greasy, but I did notice a slight shine on my face after applying it. It is too moisturizing for me to use everyday, but those of you with drier skin will love this product.

Firming Eye Cream ($32 for 0.5 ounce)
I love a very thick, moisturizing eye cream because even though my face is oily, the skin around my eyes is very dry, thin, and starting to develop fine lines. This eye cream is very soothing and has a creamier texture than the two moisturizers. It didn't really reduce the dark circles under my eyes, but no product I've ever used has been able to perform that feat.

Eye Makeup Remover ($18 for 4 ounces)
Sensitive eyes will appreciate this product. It removes eye makeup easily with no pulling or tugging. Also, it doesn't sting or burn.

Lip Silk ($15 for 0.4 ounce)
This is a very moisturizing lip balm that contains AHAs for exfoliation. My lips definitely feel smoother and less dry, but the price is a little too steep and the tube a little too small for me to justify buying this product again.
