Are you suffering from the winter blahs? Does your face need a little pick-me-up? This week we bring you reviews of a few handy products to help you through until spring. Check your local drugstore or makeup counter these days and you'll find that vitamin-packed moisturizers and treatments are becoming as common as alpha and beta hydroxy acids. Both vitamin A and C face creams promise everything from improved clarity to diminished wrinkles. Being the tireless investigator that I am (grin), over the next several weeks The Cosmetic Report will feature a series of reviews on these "wonder creams". Conveniently packaged in individual use capsules, Avon's Anew Formula C Facial Capsules ($19.00 for 30 capsules/one month supply) deliver a pre-measured dose of vitamin C in a silky cream base. Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant vitamin that helps repair and prevent future damage to the skin by the sun and pollutants in the environment, like smoke. For the first two or three nights, my sensitive skin did experience some tingling, but it was quickly replaced with a healthy glow and improved clarity. For me, "improved clarity" meant those little red spots that hang around even after a pimple is gone were actually diminished. After just two weeks, my skin has a more even tone and feels smoother. For Formula C and other great Avon products, visit Avon online. Next week, our vitamin cream series will feature Lancome's new Vitabolic Deep Radiance Booster with vitamin C, ginseng, and ginkgo. If you like a truly flawless looking face, Lancome's new Palette Pro Complexion Perfecting Kit ($20.00) is the ultimate toolbox. Any makeup artist worth her (or his) salt knows how to disguise facial "flaws" using color theory, and now you can, too. The Palette Pro includes a regular skintone concealer in light, medium or dark, and three color correcting concealers: yellow (to camouflage blue undereye circles and veins), mint green (to neutralize red patches and broken capillaries), and mauve (to counteract sallow skin). You won't look a clown in these unusual pastels if you apply them correctly:
Not sure if you can master color correcting concealers? At a very reasonable price, you can try your hand with Prestige's new Correctives Complexion Equalizer line of skin tone correctors, available in sunflower, mint, and violet (around $4 each at drugstores). Although they are in stick form, apply them the same way you would a creamy version, with a small makeup brush or your finger. For a smooth, radiant finish in one step, consider Estee Lauder Lucidity light diffusing makeup with SPF 8 ($27.50). It doesn't really diffuse light, but it does create a soft, even finish. If you like a medium coverage foundation that still looks and feels natural, Lucidity is a nice choice. On a scale of 1 to 5, with "5" being my current favorite foundation, Bobbi Brown's Foundation Stick in Warm Ivory, I'd give Lucidity a "4" along with Revlon Professional and Mary Kay Day Radiance. The Makeup Diva is In! You know about foundation, concealer, and powder, but what's the best way to apply everything so you still look like you? Look no further than this week's Ask The Makeup Diva column for handy tips for 1-2-3 makeup.
