Girl Cosmetics
report by Jennifer of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

When I was in San Francisco recently, I saw this line at Sephora, but it looked a little too young and trendy for my taste, so I continued on down the aisle, never knowing what I was missing until now! Unless you inspect the packaging you would never know that a very creative container was in your hands. Each of the eyeshadows, glosses and blushes as well as concealers are a flip top container similar to MAC. However, the bottom pops open also, to reveal a small brush for application. Now the down side is that although it's cute and clever it's not practical. The brushes are so small, who could even utilize them correctly to achieve any effects at all? People with very little hands, that's who! So I passed them on to my daughters to play with.

Their lip liners are called Love Liners for starters (cute marketing) and I tried a few warm neutral shades. Trouble is a soft brown that is absolutely velvety and is extremely easy to apply. No tugging or pulling with these little "loves". I typically go for the twist up crayon type lip liners, but these have renewed my interest in pencils.

Lip Gloss in Brown Sugar is absolutely beautiful and baby sheer. I love it because it becomes whatever color you're in the mood for, if you line it with the right color.

Lipstick - First I must say that this lipstick is very smooth and velvety. I love the texture and the application, however, it does not last at all. I was re-applying a lot! Which who has time for? Vibe is not a color I typically would wear. It is very pale and iridescent, with a gray, brown base. But it turned out not to give me that "dead" look that many grays can when I applied a soft gloss over it. Ripe is a sultry melon color which suits me well. It really is a universal color and I wear this one often. Vida is more of a fall color in my opinion. It is a deep frosty cocoa. If you like browns in Spring by all means give it a whirl!

The Crème Blush in Flushed was by far my favorite item in this line. I would never have picked this off the shelf because of its deep fuchsia color with swirls of gold, but I am here to tell you it is fabulous on. If you're looking for a sheer and natural pinch of color this is a must!

Concealer (C3) is lightweight with a good coverage. It is easy to apply and seemed to last under the heat of the Southwest.

Eye Shadow - nothing particularly special. Feather Boa is a garish reddish pink. Yuck! My eyes looked bloodshot and tired. I will never understand why cosmetic companies continue to produce red shadows, as they do not compliment anyone! Nectar is a soft, frosty peach that is fabulous as a base. I love that it is light and somewhat iridescent with just a hint of color. Great for all seasons! Ladytron is a dark bronze shadow that was actually a lot of fun to play with. I lined my eyes, wore it as shadow and even spot touched the center of my lips with it.

You can find Girl Cosmetics in fine department stores like Nordstrom, Sephora and Bloomingdale's, as well as online at GirlCosmetics.com and Sephora.com (great color swatches).
