This week I am pleased to bring you reviews of June Jacobs Spa Collection and Perlier Kiwi Energy bath products. I am also working on reviews of L'Oreal Plenitude Visible Results Skin Renewing Moisture Treatment, Osmotics Blue Copper Firming Elasticity Repair, The Body Shop Skin Re-Leaf 24 Hour Treatment Lotion, Mirenesse cosmetics from Australia, Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit and new Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation, L'Oreal Endless 8-Hour Comfortable Lipcolour - the list goes on and on! Thanks for all your suggestions!
June Jacobs Spa Collection
If you like Peter Thomas Roth products, here's a new, more indulgent line to try from the creators of PTR. June Jacobs is the co-founder and president of Peter Thomas Roth Clinical Skin Care, and now she brings her experience and vision to her own spa line. The collection is complete with facial skin care, body care, hair care and scented candles. There are three formulas of most of the products: citrus for combination and oily skin, cucumber for mature and sensitive skin, and cranberry for normal to dry skin. I opted for the cranberry, starting with some body products and hopefully adding skin care in the near future.
Cranberry Cleansing Bar ($18 for 5oz bar)
I'm not normally a bar soap user but this one lathers nicely, rinses clean away, and has a subtle, fruity and tart cranberry scent that I've really enjoyed using. This is a large bar, French milled so it will last a long time. If you are a bar soap user, I think you will enjoy the unique fragrance of this one.
Cranberry Purifying Shower Gel ($24 for 7 oz)
A shower gel that I can use with a puff or loofah, in this great tart fragrance, is more my speed. It takes several pumps on a puff to work up a nice lather, but I think the scent makes it worthwhile. This gel is labeled for all skin types, but don't expect a lot of moisture from it; that's where the body balm comes in for those of you with dry skin.
Cranberry Body Balm ($44 for 7 oz)
This rich lotion is a nice finish after using the cleanser of your choice, and while it does add an extra layer of fragrance, it's not overpowering. It moistures with jojoba oil, shea butter, sesame oil, rose hips oil, sunflower seed oil, and squalane, plus some unusual ingredients like artichoke extract and babassu oil. One thing I find interesting in this collection is that the cranberry scent does not come from an extract or oil, but is simply listed as "fragrance". Maybe real cranberries don't smell as nice as a manufactured scent...
June Jacobs Spa Collection are available at The Peninsula Spa in New York (700 Fifth Avenue, phone 212-903-3910), Apothia at Fred Segal in California (check Apothia.com for locations), Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, AZ (phone 1-800-24-CAMEL) and also from the company's toll free number, 1-866-JUNE-JAC. Other products in the line include face and body masks, facial moisturizers and sunscreen, scrubs and body polishes, and specialty hand and foot treatments.
Perlier Kiwi Energy
Perlier's newest collection of bath goodies features vitamin C rich kiwi as the main attraction, but don't buy it for the health benefits (small to none) - buy it for the smell. Kiwi Energy's fresh, fruity scent with a hint of spice practically leaps out of the package. If you are scent-shy, this is not for you.
Bath & Shower Gel ($17.50 for 8.4 oz)
If your mornings need a wake-up call, jump in the shower and lather up with this fruity gel. I found it to be a nice change from basic floral or orange/grapefruit scents, but I would like it to be a bit more moisturizing; its detergent cleansers can be a little drying. If you aren't bothered by dry skin, this is worth a try. Bath & Shower Gel also comes in 16.8oz for $25 and 2L for $65.
Hydrating Body Lotion ($22.50 for 8.4 oz)
To make up for the shower gel being a bit lacking in the hydrating department, you can slather on this rich cream and enjoy another layer of kiwi freshness. The avocado oil, corn oil, glycerin and milk protein make the skin feel soft and silky - perfect straight out of the shower or post-shave. The chunky tube packaging is unusual and a little hard to handle if your hands are slippery with lotion, but at least it has a flip-top cap to make applying it easier.
Hand Cream ($15 for 3.3 oz)
Aside from being a great rich hand cream with no greasiness, I like this one because the scent makes it a great pick-me-up during the day. Mineral oil, glycerin, beeswax, and sesame oil combined with the kiwi fruit extract knock out dry skin and leave a fresh scent behind.
Perlier products are available at select department stores in the US, by phone at 877-737-5353 or online at Perlier.com. The Kiwi Energy collection also includes shampoo, deodorant, talc, bath salts and body scrub.
I hope you enjoyed this issue of The Cosmetic Report!
Until next time,
