THE COSMETIC REPORT
October 8, 2001

I have a ton of new things to review, so for this week and the next several to come, I'll share with you my findings on a wide range of goodies. Enjoy!

Cake Beauty
Cake is a fun new bath and body line from Canada that smells so tempting, you'll want to eat it! If confections are your passion, these scents are for you.

Stir It Up and Fresh Waked Sudsing Shower Juices ($18 for 13.5oz) are a great way to start the morning. Stir It Up combines cinnamon and citrus, while Fresh Waked is full-strength lemon-lime. These shower gels (or "juices") are thicker than most, much like the consistency of aloe vera gel, and produce a nice lather.

Citrus Squeeze and Sweet Cheeks Sinfully Smoothing Brown Sugar Scrubs ($26 for 16oz) are perfect for the upcoming winter to keep skin smooth and soft. Each has brown sugar granules in a mix of essential oils like grapefruit and orange (in Citrus Squeeze) or cinnamon and vanilla (in Sweet Cheeks). Just rub it all over and rinse!

If you prefer a luxurious soak in the tub to a quick dash in the shower, Dream Puff Frothing Bath Lounge ($18 for 13.5oz) is the one to try. The scent - lavender and marzipan - is completely decadent. If you close your eyes in the tub, you'll swear you are floating in freshly baked pastries. FYI - Dream Puff is very generous with the bubbles.

After sudsing and soaking, get ready for some serious moisturizers. Cake Beauty has several choices. Supreme Body Mousse ($18 for 9oz) is a whipped lotion rich with macadamia nut oil, mango butter, coconut oil and aloe vera. The scents are:

Desserted Island - coconut and vanilla
Just Add Flower - carnation, freesia and rose
It's A Slice - orange and vanilla
Creme De La Creme - maple and vanilla

If the body mousse isn't rich enough for you, reach for Dolce Super-Lux Body Creme ($20 for 9oz). It's made with shea butter, mango butter, milk, vanilla, rosehip seed oil and marshmallow, and is for the driest skin. Specially for hands is Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme ($14 for 4.5oz), which has a subtle milky frosting smell. It absorbs well without feeling greasy but is still rich enough for dry skin.

You can find Cake Beauty products at luxbeauty.com and whosthefairest.com. With winter coming in just a few months, their body lotions are going to be a great choice for dry, chapped skin.

Sensa NuAge Goat Milk soap (around $3 each)
If this newsletter is any indicator, Canada is treating us to some pretty amazing bath and body products! Jones Sheehan, General Manager for Sensa, contacted me recently to try their collection of goat milk soaps. These are some of the best bar soaps I have ever used! The lather is soft and rinses easily, the scents are fresh and light, and the soap is incredibly moisturizing. If you have dry skin and love bar soap but hate the way it's so drying and stripping, you have to try these. Of all the scents - natural, orange, watermelon, strawberry, fruits, and lilac - I like lilac the best.

Canadians are in luck, as NuAge goat milk soaps can only be found in drugstores in Canada, and Wal-Mart sells a twin pack of the natural soap in their stores in Quebec. For the rest of us, Jones says you can call 418-845-3477 or fax 418-845-5393. I hope they come to the US soon!
