THE COSMETIC REPORT
December 18, 1998 - Special Update

You may be wondering why the "Special Update"? You may also be wondering why you have not received an issue of The Cosmetic Report since November 27th. If you have been following the news of my pregnancy, I am pleased to announce that the big day arrived - baby Hannah is here! She came rather unexpectedly on December 3rd, a full two weeks before her December 18th due date!

Needless to say things both personally and professionally have turned completely upside down! I really appreciate for your patience regarding the report. Future issues may be a bit abbreviated in length, but you can still count on great cosmetic information and reviews. Now, on to the report!

Our holiday makeup review series continues this week with Chanel's "Share the Fantasy" holiday collection. For lips, Double Lip Crayon ($28.50) in Golddust has a creamy brown shade on one end, and a glossy gold highlighter on the other. The chunky pencil makes lining and coloring a snap. Prefer reds? Hydracaresse Super Hydrating Lipstick ($22.50) in Red Lamé (with a hint of gold) and Ruby Slipper (hint of burgundy) are definite showstoppers. Make your eyes stand out with Sculpting Mascara ($20) in Copper and Liquid Eye Lines ($27.50) in Onyx near the lash line for fullness and definition (a great technique for any liner and mascara pair). You can even add sparkle to your nails with Nail Color ($15.50) in Lamé and Crystal. For a touch of shimmer anywhere, don't forget Crystal Glitter ($25) on shoulders, neck, cheeks, or wherever. These are all beautiful colors for any holiday party or get-together you have planned.

Looking for skin care products to relieve the dry, sensitive skin that so many of us get around this time of year? Clarins has recently expanded their sensitive skin line to include a new Gentle Day Lotion and Gentle Soothing Mask, both of which are worth considering. Personally, my skin can't handle mineral oil (major breakouts) and most of Clarins' sensitive skin products contain mineral oil, but the Gentle Day Lotion is different. This lightweight lotion feels great on the skin, absorbs quickly, but still gives you enough moisture to feel protected. It's too light for very dry skin, but for everyday wear, it's a nice choice.

The Gentle Soothing Mask also feels great on the skin, does wonders for really dry patches (soaks in immediately with lasting moisture), but it does contain mineral oil. For most people, this is no problem, but some sensitive types react to it... Personally, I would sooner use BeneFit's Seaweed Mud Mask for dry skin, which does an incredible job of moisturizing and "plumping up" the skin without the possible side effects of mineral oil.

This time of year is so often filled with family get-togethers, office parties, and lavish dinners - why not look your most dazzling at every one? Our Product Panelist Lisa takes you through 25 top cosmetic and fragrance lines with news of their latest collections. You won't want to miss this season's selection of beauty boosters!
