Marissa samples summer makeup
Ah, summer. The time of year that you don't really want to wear make-up. Unless, you are a product junkie like me, and therefore summer make-up is all about new colors, skin care, scent etc. Here's a sampling of my summer so far...
Like Kristen, I, too, received a sample of the Clinical-Basic Skincare regime, but my line was for dry/normal skin. When I started reading Kristen's review, I thought to myself, I have all those products, too - how can that be? However, I went onto the website and discovered there are different degrees of strength in all of the products. For dry/normal skin, it is the regular strength of the Facial Wash and Cleansing Beads.
During the first week, I was planning to use the Cleansing Beads twice a day (as I was supposed to), but by day three, my skin was horrible. It was way too drying on my face! I almost gave up on this line, but I didn't and I'm glad I stuck to it. I now keep the Facial Wash and Beads in the shower, and use them both but only in the shower, and the beads on every other morning. This has kept my skin looking really smooth.
With dry/normal skin you also get a sunscreen with an SPF 27 as well as the Hydrating Gel. I use the sunscreen every day, and because the sunscreen is so moisturizing, I hardly ever use the gel. You know, I like this line. It is basic, but it works. However, here's what I'm not so thrilled with - see if this bugs you too! I keep cleansers in the shower, so what bugs me is when the bottle label starts to flake off on your hand or when the print starts to run. I know what's really important is inside the bottle, but it irks me when I have little flecks of black on my hand from the label! Great products, but please work on the packaging.
The drugstore can be so alluring sometimes... normally, I am a department store kinda gal, but when I'm in CVS, that huge cosmetic section just calls my name, begging me to come over and try, try, try. So, I did! I bought the Neutrogena Healthy Defense Trio SPF 30 in Medium 03
. It has a lipgloss, cream bronzer and a powder in a small square compact, and everything is SPF 30. While the concept is nice, and the lipgloss smells great, I like to actually see my gloss and bronzer and this just didn't cut it for my skin tone. Plus, no mirror. I thought I would be carrying this in my beach bag for touch-ups, but with no mirror, it just isn't for me.
Benefit has a new foundation called Nonfiction. If you like the texture and feel of a tinted moisturizer, then this is for you. I like wearing this foundation - it's very sheer but gives your face a polished, finished look. Nonfiction comes in 10 shades, from volume 1 Light Beige up to volume 10 Cocoa Brown. At $26, this is a great staple to your summer makeup wardrobe.
Calvin Klein and La Prairie came out with new fragrances this spring/summer, and I'm a sucker every year buying my own signature summer fragrance. I try to look for one that's light and fun and well, summery. I narrowed my choices down to cK One Summer
, and La Prairie Silver Rain. The fragrances are as opposite as can be. Silver Rain is a more sophisticated scent and does remind me of the smell of a summer rain, while cK One Summer is flirty and fruity and beachy. In the end, however, it came down to one thing: PRICE! CK One Summer is $38 and Silver Rain is $100. If cash isn't an issue, try Silver Rain. The bottle is a beautiful silver water drop and the scent is unique. If you want to add a summer fragrance to your collection that won't break your budget, try cK One Summer.
Have a great summer!
