The sweet smell of organics
Summer is such a sensory time, with flowers bursting, freshly cut grass, and the tropical scent of everyone's sunscreen. This summer I've been seeking out nice smelling products that make the ordinary task of getting ready every morning a bit more enjoyable, and I always look for organic ingredients whenever I can.
Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Shampoo and Conditioner
The first thing I can't help noticing about this shampoo is the fruity, intoxicating scent. If a simple aroma could transport you to another place, I swear I am shampooing in Italy every day! I also like that this shampoo doesn't have harsh chemical cleanser that can dry out my hair, and it has UV filters so when I choose to color, it doesn't fade from the sun as quickly. I follow it up with a big dollop of the Italian Red Grape Conditioner, which has the same enticing smell. My hair can feel a little brittle after coloring, but this conditioner softens it right up, glides through easily, and leaves it silky and soft. Pangea Organics Bar Soap ($6.99)
I love to experiment with new soap scents and brands, and I especially appreciates brands that use organic ingredients and are sensitive to minimizing excessive packaging. Pangea makes some amazing smelling soaps, all with organic oils and plant extracts, the formulas are extra gentle on your skin, and the 100% post-consumer paper box can even be composted! I have so many favorites scents, but right now I am stuck on Pyrenees Lavender with Damiana Tea with an occasional switch to Tunisian Olive Oil and Coconut. You must try one for yourself! I got mine at Whole Foods Market; you can learn more and find store locations at pangeaorganics.com.
Natural Organic Edible Cosmetics Natural Lemon Peel Exfoliating Cleanser ($18)
On a recent visit to Massachusetts, I stopped in at Whole Foods Market in Hadley to pick up a few odds and ends, including a new bottle of cleanser (I always seem to run out when I travel). Thankfully they had my favorite, Suki Cleansing Lotion, but I couldn't resist checking out the selection of other skincare brands at this Whole Foods versus the one here in Portland. Natural Organic Edible Cosmetics got my attention, mainly because of the name, but once I started reading the labels, I knew I had to try a bottle of something. I settled on this gently scrubby lemon lotion cleanser, a great choice for the shower or by the sink (maybe use a washcloth to aid in removal). Its rich and creamy, super gentle, and has a really refreshing citrus scent. I am looking forward to trying other products from the line. You can see more at noecosmetics.com.
Aubrey Organics Eau de Parfum ($21.50)
No journey into organic skincare products is complete without a little organic perfume to top it all off! I just got a bottle of Aubrey's Angelica parfum, and I just love it! It's sultry, a little spicy, and floral all rolled into one, and I love that the ingredients are organic and not a fake chemical scent - those always give me such a headache. See all the Aubrey Parfum scents at aubrey-organics.com.
