Club Monaco
report by the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

It seems that by now everyone has heard of this line, or at least of the Glaze lipstick made famous by Monica Lewinsky. I set out on a mission to find out if this line has more to offer the true cosmetic connoisseur. I was pleasantly surprised!

Club Monaco offers a full line of cosmetic products and has also recently added a skincare line. The cosmetic line is designed by New York-based makeup artist, Denise Markey. The products offer a clean, modern, and simple approach to beauty. I was told that the products are designed to be simple to use for the average consumer; they are not designed with only makeup artists in mind.

The packaging of Club Monaco Cosmetics is simple and frosted. It gives the appearance of the product itself floating on ice.

Okay, now for the products. Club Monaco offers three foundation formulations: liquid, oil-free, and wet/dry. Each type of foundation is available in wide range (fifteen) shades. Eight of the shades are "neutral" (actually warm), and seven are "beige" (slightly cooler). All of the shades are quite natural - none are too pink or too orange!

The liquid foundation provides natural, medium coverage and is a bit hydrating. It would work for all skin types, as it is not heavy or greasy on the skin.

The oil-free (also a liquid, packaged similarly to the regular liquid) is a bit more lightweight and provides a matte finish. I liked the fact that the finish was matte, but lightweight. So many matte-finish foundations are chalky and mask-like, but this one was not. This formulation is also non-comedogenic.

Finally, the wet/dry is a versatile powder foundation, which provides a semi-matte finish.

Club Monaco also offers a concealer in eleven different shades. This is a tube concealer, which is smooth, silky and easily blended. Pressed and loose powders are also available in five translucent shades.

Of course, Club Monaco also offers their extensive collection of eyeshadows (both powders and "eye greases"), lipsticks, and blushes, which is updated seasonally.

My personal picks from the line:

  • Liquid Makeup in Neutral 1
  • Loose Powder in Enhancer 1 (a pale yellow)
  • Pressed Powder in Finale 2
  • Bronzer in Bronze 1 (a perfect pinky-bronze)
  • Eye Grease in Gild (a shimmery, ivory-gold)
  • Lipstick in Kiss (shimmery, sheer plum-bronze)
  • Lipstick in Beam (a bit more plummy than Kiss, also shimmery)
Overall, this is an up-and-coming line of cosmetics definitely worth checking out.
