Eve.com Eve.com touts itself as "the first company created exclusively to offer an array of prestige beauty products on the Web." They recently signed a deal with AOL and are poised to bring "prestige" beauty to women across the US. I decided to try them out with a budget of $30. On July 1st, after browsing the site and reading a few articles, I selected Urban Decay 3 in 1 Concealer ($14) in "cloud cover" and Tony & Tina Lipstick ($15) in "Chosen" (pink rose). With a nice range of brands and products, I didn't have as hard a time as I thought I would at sticking to my $30 budget. I found the product selection and checkout experience to be easy to follow and very clearly stated. The order form also invited me to choose two categories of samples I'd like to recieve with my order; I selected "skincare" and "other". At the time I ordered, standard USPS Priority Mail shipping was free (normally it's $3.95) and would take about one week. My total came to $29. I received my order on July 6th, well within the week time frame, and was eager to see all my goodies. Inside the box were two small note cards: one thanking me for my order, and the other offering free giftwrapping on my next order (a $3 value). I also found a nifty samples pouch with samples of men's fragrances like Givenchy and Bijan, as well as bath and body samples of Essentiel Elements hand cream, Jil Sander perfume, and Orlane toner. While these were not exactly the categories I had requested, it was still nice to get some samples. My products were nicely wrapped in eve.com tissue paper sealed with an eve.com sticker. I immediately open the Tony & Tina lipstick and tried it on! The eve.com site had mentioned this color, "Chosen," as a great pink for people who hate pink. This got my attention as so many pinks these days are too bright or too pale for me. This shade is a pretty, fleshy pink with just a hint of fuschia. The color looks a bit lighter on the screen than it is in the tube. My favorite part of the lipstick is the texture - smooth and light, not too creamy, not too matte. It almost melds with your lips so you hardly feel that the lipstick is even there. It also has a great aromatherapy smell from lavender, bergamot, rosewater and rosemary, plus mood-lifting St. John's Wort. I would definitely pick up another tube or two of this lipstick in a few other colors. My second product, Urban Decay Concealer, was also a great find. Unlike most basic fleshtone concealers, this one has a green color correcting concealer on one side and a fleshtone on the other. The idea is that you can use the green to camouflage pimples, which tend to be red (and the green cancels out the red), then you can use the fleshtone over it. The green concealer also has salicylic acid, so it sort of doubles as a blemish fighter (except I doubt there is really enough in there to make a huge difference). You can, of course, use the fleshtone concealer on underye circles or anywhere else that needs a little extra coverage. What I liked best was the texture - creamy but not oily or greasy, lightweight but decent coverage. You can layer it on without worrying about caking or it turning orange, and it has good holding power especially when you put a little loose powder over it. UD Concealer comes in three colors: Cloud Cover (the lighest), Jungle Cover (a medium shade), and Night Cover (the darkest). All in all I enjoyed my shopping experience at Eve.com. They have a decent amount of information, and the images for the products are fair representations. I would like to see more in terms of product ingredients, and of course more brands!
