JUNE 98: SUNSCREEN FAVORITES
One of the most important (and easiest) steps you can take to protect your skin is to use a sunscreen every day. As great as the sun is, its rays can do some nasty damage to your skin, like brown spots, sunburn, wrinkles, and acne. Applying a sun protection product of at least SPF 8 (preferably SPF 15) can significantly prevent this damage, and keep your skin looking younger and smoother longer. With so many products on the market from drugstore and surf shop brands to the more expensive department store lines, choosing one that not only works well but also feels good on the skin can be overwhelming. Here's a handy guide to a few of the best sunscreens for your face.

Estee Lauder DayWear SPF 15
For my normal-to-dry skin, I love the DayWear medium-weight cream. It soothes and protects with hyaluronic acid and an anti-oxidant blend of green tea extract, grapeseed extract, rice bran extract, and vitamins E, C, and beta-carotene. Now that DayWear comes in both cream and lotion versions, it's a great choice for any skin type.

Basis Face The Day Lotion SPF 15
Although this lotion is labeled for normal-to-oily skin, it actually leaves the skin more dewy and supple, better for somewhat dry skin. Face The Day has SPF 15 sunscreen and anti-oxidant vitamins, making it a real find for around $8 (at drugstores).

Lancome Bienfait Total SPF 15
I've found this to be an all-around great product for just about any skin type. The lightweight fluid absorbs quickly, leaving no overly dewy residue behind. I've used this lotion both when my skin was normal-to-dry and normal-to-oily and had no problems with breakouts, dryness, or greasiness. A bit spendy at $30 for the small size, but it should last at least six months with daily use.

Coppertone Oil-Free Waterproof Sunblock
I would have never considered using Coppertone on my face until I discovered this oil-free lotion. You can choose from SPF 15 or 30 depending on your skin's needs, and the lightweight lotion absorbs quickly, leaving nothing but protected skin behind. For everyday or your next vacation in the sun, Coppertone oil-free works great for under $10 at most drugstores and supermarkets.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 13
For drier skin, Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer is a great product to hydrate and protect your skin at the same time. The lightweight texture is perfect for everyday wear, and it leaves the skin moist without any residue, which can often make your makeup bunch up or slide off. Ultra Facial Moisturizer also comes in a non-sunscreen version for night use.

Clinique City Block SPF 15 tinted moisturizer
The color is very subtle, but if you like that makeup-free look for summer, and you want an easy one step product, City Block makes a great choice for normal, combination, or normal-to-oily skin types. For weekend activities, or for anytime when you're just not in the mood to put on regular makeup, City Block is a nice alternative to regular foundation.
