THE COSMETIC REPORT
June 16, 2004

Welcome to the Cosmetic Report newsletter. It's our goal to bring you unbiased information about cosmetic products and trends so you can make educated buying decisions. If you've been searching for straightforward beauty information and advice, you've found it here. The Cosmetic Connection Panel of reviewers are consumers just like you who face the same issues and challenges, and look to the beauty industry to help solve them.

Denise is a 28-year old paralegal from Phoenix, Arizona. She has long strawberry-blonde hair and blue-green eyes, and a super fair complexion with combination skin. Her skin does not tend to break out very often. Denise is still looking for the "perfect" cleansing regimen, and having fun looking!

ESTEE LAUDER PURE COLOR COOL COLLECTION
For summer 2004, the makeup whizzes at Estee Lauder came up with a neat new twist to their Pure Color cosmetic collection - Pure Color Cool. This is an awesome new line of icy shades of lip gloss, eye shadow mousse and frosting pencils, and nail lacquers that are not only beautiful when applied, they also feel cool to the touch. I was somewhat doubtful when I first read about the line, but it's all true! I don't know how the cooling effect is brought on, but let me tell you, here in Phoenix, when the temperature is approaching 110 degrees, I'm happy for anything cool and refreshing.

Pure Color Cool Gloss ($20)
These lip glosses are my new staple - they go on feeling light and literally cool, with no "gloppiness" at all. To make them even better, each of the lip glosses has a light, fruity fragrance and taste. The glosses don't really add a color to your lips, but rather more of a lightly-frosted sheen. And truly, I've never been a big fan of overly-frosted lipsticks - they remind me of my mother's rhinestone pink shade that she wears to this day. These new EL glosses are just frosted enough to leave your lips looking plump and defined, but not really glittery. I tried the Pure Color Cool glosses in Cool Melon, a pretty light melon shade with a hint of melon scent and flavor; Cool Petal, which is a nice pinky gloss that smells and tastes like fresh berries; Cool Coconut, a cool silvery gloss with a fantastic coconut essence to it; Cool Lemon, a golden gloss with a super-refreshing lemon scent; and Cool Lilac, a pretty light purple gloss which I think smells like grape, but I'm not sure exactly what scent they were aiming for. One of my favorite things about the Pure Color Cool glosses is that they don't dry out on your lips and turn into an ugly, cakey mess, as some frosted lip products do. The glosses wear off gradually, but leave no residue behind, so I can easily just swipe on a refresher coat whenever needed. These fantastic new glosses from Estee Lauder would make a great addition to any makeup diva's summertime makeup bag.

Pure Color Cool Eye Mousse ($20)
In my daily makeup routine, I definitely lean more towards matte eye shadows, as I feel that they create more of a natural daytime look. I have to tell you, though, I love these little pots of Pure Color Cool Eye Mousse from Estee Lauder. True to its name, the eye mousse is a light, cool-to-the-touch cream that is designed to be applied with your fingertips. I tried them in Cool Kiwi, a pretty frosted moss-green shade that I loved with my blue eyes, and Cool Coconut, which is a frosty white shade. The great thing about these eye shadows is that you can apply just a hint of creamy color to highlight your eyelid, or apply a thicker coat for a knockout frosty-eye look. The colors that I tried are both beautiful and both lasted all day long without creasing. And I love the cool sensation when I apply the eye mousse to my lids! I sometimes feel as if I can feel my tired eyes waking up as I apply my eye shadow! Another great new product from Estee Lauder!

Pure Color Cool Eye Frosting Pencil ($18.50)
The Pure Color Cool Eye Frosting Pencils are oversized pencils that make it easy to sweep on a splash of your favorite frosty shade. I tried Cool Bronze, which is a striking frosted copper color. The frosting pencils are also available in Cool Candy and Cool Ocean. I loved how smoothly the pencil applied to my lids, and the color lasted all day. I probably won't use this eye pencil on a daily basis, because I'm not that into frosted eyes (especially in the liner category), but it is definitely a nice addition to my makeup bag. My plan is to keep it in my makeup kit at work, since it would make it really easy to transition my daytime makeup into an evening look.

Pure Color Nail Lacquer ($18)
Just like the other products in the Pure Color Cool collection, the nail lacquer comes in several ice-cream fresh summertime shades. I tried Cool Petal, which is a really pretty, color-of-the-moment creamy pink shade. I love the way this color works with my skin tone, and it really sets off the hint of a tan that I'm just beginning to sport. One coat of this polish is nearly transparent, but as you build up the coats, the color becomes vibrant and shiny. The EL Pure Color Cool nail lacquer lasted on my nails for a full 5 days before it started to chip, and I'm very tough on my nails. The other shades available are Cool Melon, Cool Lilac, and Arctic. Although I think that $18.00 is a bit spendy for nail polish, I know that loyal Estee Lauder customers won't blink an eye at that price tag, and these really are not your average drugstore nail polishes.

The Estee Lauder Pure Color Cool collection is a fun and functional bunch of products, just perfect for your summertime beauty regimen. I have really enjoyed this collection - you can pick up yours at most department stores, as well as esteelauder.com and gloss.com.

We hope you enjoyed this issue of The Cosmetic Report!
