THE COSMETIC REPORT
August 4, 2003

This week our Panelist Debbie has a brand new review of Gly Derm skincare. Enjoy!

Debbie is 41 years old and lives in sunny San Diego, California. Her skintone is light and she has combination skin, with her cheeks more on the dry side. She has been know to have up to 11 foundations at one time, which makes foundations one of her obsessions and the second is always searching for the perfect non-waterproof mascara that lengthens, adds volume, won't flake, smudge, gives dark pigment and lasts all day - a tall order to fill. She currently owns more makeup than she could possibly use in her lifetime and probably about 50 lipglosses (how can one person own that many?) and still that doesn't stop her from buying more, but it's all in the name of research, right? Have a question for Debbie? Email her here.

Now on to Debbie's review!

Only in this industry of reviewing products is it okay to check the mirror constantly for reduction of lines, wrinkles, a glowing face, etc., and it isn't considered vain, but research! I had read some good reviews on Gly Derm skincare and was anxious to try it. I will mention that those I know who love it have more oil in their skin, whereas I have dry cheeks and in general my skin seems drier, so my results were a bit different.

Gentle Cleanser ($13.95 for 8 fl oz)
This is a concentrated cleanser that it supposed to be gentle enough for daily use on (according to Gly Derm) "even the most sensitive skin," but my dry face is still left with a dry, taut, stripped feeling. This might work better for oilier skin types. I won't be repurchasing this cleanser.

Hydrating UV Cream ($22.95 for 1.50 oz)
I like using a cream with SPF 15, but the texture of this one is too light for dry skin; I never felt like I had enough moisture and by the end of the day my face looked dry. I went back to some of my more hydrating moisturizers for day wear.

Cream 5 ($17.95 for 1.5 oz)
I used this at night. It contains 5% glycolic acid for those just starting with glycolics. The texture seems a little heavy at first but it does sink in and I wake up hydrated and glowing. This was probably my favorite item from what I tried. At the end of this jar I would be ready for the next level, 10% glycolic acid.

Hydrating Eye Cream ($17.95 for 2 fl oz)
I like DDF Nourishing Eye Cream better than this for texture and hydration. This is a very light formula and for my dry skin, my eye area felt tight all day and I hate that feeling. The plus side is that makeup isn't effected by this cream, so those of you with oilier skins or have problems with their eye makeup smearing may really like this eye cream.

I personally didn't think Gly Derm had much to offer me with my drier skin, but if you have oilier, acne-prone skin, you might want to give this line a try. The prices aren't bad which was a plus for me, and they sell starter kits.

There are quite a few on-line stores you can purchase from; I happened to get mine from Dermstore.com. I had a couple of issues, like shipping me the wrong product and then the eye cream pump didn't work, but they were great about taking care of everything for me and I would order from them again.

Thanks, Debbie. I hope you enjoyed this issue of The Cosmetic Report!

Until next time,

Editor-in-Chief
