THE COSMETIC REPORT
August 20, 2001

While I am taking a little time being mom to a newborn again, our hard-working Panelists are filling in to keep you up-to-date on the latest products. This week I am pleased to feature Bobbi and her report on eye makeup removers for sensitive skin. You can learn more about Bobbi here.

Take it away, Bobbi!

I have received several questions concerning eye makeup removers that cause eyes to burn. If you have this problem, you probably have sensitive skin. If you wear contacts you also have a problem, because of the oil in many of the removers. I decided I would review a few of the ones that work for the ultimate in sensitive skin!

Almay Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Gel ($4.69) and Almay Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Lotion ($4.29)
These are two of the many products in their hypo-allergenic line. It is also one line that you can trust to be truly hypo-allergenic. It is 100% fragrance free, totally oil-free. It is ophthalmologist, dermatologist and clinically tested. It is also suitable for contact lens wearers.

The only difference between these two products is that one is a gel and one is a clear lotion. They both remove makeup easily, without rubbing and irritation. The gel recommends you use your fingers to apply and then wash off with water. The lotion recommends using a cotton pad to remove and does not require rinsing. Personally, I like the lotion best, but will often travel with the gel, as it is somewhat safer for spills.

Almay is available at drugstores, Target, K Mart, Walmart and Drugstore.com and ULTA.com.

Awake Point Makeup Remover ($15)
This lotion is gentle and non-irritating and it does a great job of removing makeup from the eyes and lips. There is no oily residue. I like this product, but think it is a bit expensive for 2.1 oz.

Awake products are available through Sephora.com, or Neiman Marcus.

Clarins Eye-Makeup Remover Lotion ($16.50)
This lotion is very refreshing! It feels great, smells of rosewater and does a great job removing makeup. There is no oil, so there is no greasy residue. It is non-irritating, and safe for sensitive skin and contact lens wearers. It is also slightly expensive for 4.4 oz.

Clarins products are available through major department stores nationwide.

Club Monaco Eye Color Remover ($12)
This product is also gentle and oil-free. It uses natural extracts of aloe vera, chamomile, which soothes the eye area. It also contains allantoin which helps prevent irritation. It is ophthalmologist tested, fragrance free and works great for sensitive eyes, as well as contact lens wearers. The price is somewhere in the middle of the ones I have reviewed. The bottle contains 3.4 oz. This is the one I am currently using and I have been using it for about 4 months. It should last me another 3 months, at least.
