THE COSMETIC REPORT
December 23, 2002

With such a dedicated Panel of reviewers, I like to highlight their research and reviews whenever I can. This week I'm pleased to share R's review of Lola cosmetics and skin care. Enjoy!

R is a 39 year old sports marketing and publicity agent from Staten Island, New York. She's a brunette with wavy, shoulder-length hair that she lightens from medium to a lighter shade of brown, and straightens. R has blue eyes and fair-medium skin that is normal to dry and sensitive skin. Her skin concerns include dark undereye circles that she inherited from her father (she's the concealer queen), slight broken capillaries on her cheeks (result of using a buff puff in her teens and going a little crazy trying to get rid of a pimple). R loves tennis, cosmetics, visiting Sephora, shopping ebay, reading, shopping, wheeling & dealing, writing, and trying to stay youthful looking!

Take it away, R!

Whatever Lola wants Lola gets, and so can you from the recently released Lola cosmetic line created by celebrity makeup artist, author, and infomercial icon Victoria Jackson. Lola is an upscale hip cosmetic color and botanically based skin care line, and the radiant red packaged products are not only eye catching, they are all absolutely awesome.

As a makeup and skincare junkie, I have favorites from different lines, but this is the closest I have ever come to finding a line where I could use every product in it and give up my others. Each item is somewhat compact in size (a major plus for me and any woman who likes to tote her products in a cute trendy cosmetic case), but don't allow the packaging to deceive you because you get as much product from Lola as you do from any other line.

Oil-Free Creme Foundation ($35.00)
I'm a woman who doesn't much like wearing foundation because I have always found them to be heavy and difficult to apply evenly, until I tried Lola's oil-free one. Available in shades to suit all skin types, Natural Beige is the perfect match for my fair to medium skin, and though it is sheer in texture, the foundation provides full flawless coverage, and is smooth and simple to apply. It contains Vitamins A, C, and E, and SPF8 for protection from any environmental damage, and I opted for the foundation in a compact as opposed to bottle (Oil Free Sheer Foundation, $30) so I could slip it into my makeup case, as I am a girl on the go.

Blush ($22.00)
The highly pigmented micronized powder blushes are available in neutral to vibrant shades, and enable the user to create a soft wash or dramatic look. I selected Cherish, which in my opinion is the most universal shade in the line, and will work for all women. It is a natural looking light brown shade with a slight subtle rose undertone, which gives the cheeks a healthy glow. It is a perfect daytime shade, and can be applied a little more heavily for a nice nighttime look. Comes with the prettiest puff in white with a red ribbon around it so using it makes you feel perfectly pampered.

Lip Creme ($20.00)
I haven't been able to stop raving about the lip creme I discovered in the shade Paris, as it's the first red I've ever been able to wear with ease in my entire life. It has no blue or orange undertones, doesn't appear to be in the fuschia family when applied, isn't the first color you see when looking at my face, and yet is the truest red I've ever used. Best applied with a lip brush, it enables me to control the depth (also lasts longer when put on this way), this moisturizing lipstick is a staple for me wherever I go. There are great other shades in the creme line, and for those who prefer the au natural look, there is an entire line of super sheer lipsticks.

Lip Gloss ($16.00)
All the luscious Lola lipglosses contain green tea extract, mint and jojoba, which make lips silky soft and smooth. The colors are all fantastic but my favorite is Ooh Baby, a light beige coppery shimmer shade that looks sensational over Paris lipstick as a way to tone down some of the red, and add shine. These little glosses will fit into the smallest of places for those daily touchups, but if you compare the amount of product in them to glosses in other lines, you will see that you do get the same bang for your buck.

Highlighter Pencil ($20.00)
This pink pencil should be named Ms. Fix It as it brightens all the dark problem areas on the face with just a dab here and there. It's perfect to wear under the brow to make eyes appear larger, over concealer under the eyes so as to detract attention from dark circles, and on the lower lip to bring more attention to your pucker. This is the ideal pencil to hide all imperfections, and one that you'll find yourself never leaving your home without.

Eye Hydrating Cream ($35.00)
The skin care products in the line can not be overlooked as I find them to be just as wonderful as the color items. This eye cream replenishes moisturize as comfrey and licorice de-puff, brighten, and lighten dark under eye circles with continued use. The cream is absorbed quickly into the skin, and is perfect to wear both during the day beneath your makeup, and before going to bed.

Day Light Moisturizer ($35.00)
Filled with vitamins, this lightweight moisturizer also works as a great makeup primer. It features panthenol protein, and white tea that is rich in antioxidants. It too is absorbed quickly into the skin, feels fantastic, and works to keep your skin in sensational shape beneath your makeup.

It's not often, or ever, that I find every product in a line to be so wonderful, and I am looking forward to trying the rest of the Lola products as I am already eyeing some of the other glosses and a few of the lip pencils. I figured out that the trademark heart on each product is there for a reason: I love Lola, and I believe you will, too.

Lola is available at LolaCosmetics.com, Sephora.com and Henri Bendel in NYC.

Thanks, R! I hope you enjoyed this issue of The Cosmetic Report!
