A Look at Personal Picks from our Panelist, Alissa
Many women, like myself, have skin which is oily, but not "teenage" oily. My adult skin can't handle the harsh ingredients that are in most "acne" or "made for oily skin" products. So, after many, many days of dry, peeling skin with blemishes (at the same time, a lovely sight), I have found some products that work for me, as someone who has adult oily skin.
Neutrogena Non-Drying cleanser (5.5 fl.oz., $7.99)
I really like this cleanser, because it thoroughly removes make-up, without drying out my skin. If foaming is something you want in a cleanser, this isn't for you. However, the creamy, yet non oily texture is enough to convert those who are used to a foaming cleanser over to a non foaming cleanser. Many acne or made for oily skin products burn and sting while washing the skin and cause the skin to look red afterwards. Neutrogena Non-Drying cleanser really works for adult oily skin, gently removing oil and make-up without removing the skin.
Biore cleansing gel (non-foaming) (5 oz., $5.99)
This cleanser works well if you are washing your face, say, in the morning. It doesn't remove make-up really well, unless you use two applications. Even though Biore cleansing gel contains sorbitol, a natural plant extract, I still would use a toner to remove the make-up left behind. I like to use this cleanser in the morning when I need to "freshen" up my face. I also like the clean fragrance and gel consistency.
Neutrogena Alcohol-Free toner (8 oz., $7.99)
Sometimes I like to use a toner if I feel I need a little extra cleaning or my skin feels oily. Neutrogena Alcohol-Free toner removes any leftover make-up and oil without leaving the skin dry. Because this toner is alcohol-free, my skin never stings or feels raw, which happens frequently with toners made for oily/acne prone skin. This toner is not fragrance-free, which may bother some, but I personally like the very light, clean smelling fragrance. Another plus to this toner is the soft, silky texture of the product. Some toners are heavy feeling to the skin and smell like a chemistry lab, but Neutrogena's toner is great for oilies like me who like to use toner without ripping their skin apart in the process.
Prescriptives All You Need Oil-Free Action Moisturizer (3.4 oz., $50.00)
Even though my skin is oily, I still like to use a moisturizer to help set my make-up. Prescriptives All You Need really lives up to its name. It hydrates the skin without adding so much moisture that the skin is shiny or greasy. Also, Prescriptives moisturizer keeps the shine to a minimum during the day and does not interfere with make-up as some moisturizers do. The price for this may seem a little high, but one pump application is All You Need.
L'Oreal Refreshing Eye Make-Up Remover (4 oz., $6.99)
The last thing a woman with oily skin needs is an eye make-up remover that is greasy and leaves a residue. L'Oreal's eye make-up remover is non-greasy and removes eye make-up in one sweep. This eye make-up remover is extremely gentle and leaves the eye area clean without feeling dried out.
Lancome Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Make-Up Remover (4 oz., $17.00)
This is a nice eye make-up remover that does not sting or make you pull or tug at the skin to remove your make-up. If you wear eye shadow, eye liner and mascara all at once, Lancome's Bi-Facil will remove it all in one application. I like the soft, satiny texture of the product, and the non greasy feel makes it a plus for oily skins.
