Aveda Hair Care report by Heather of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
Even though most of my product reviews are about samples, I wouldn't want to ignore those products that are a bit trickier to sample. When given the opportunity to test more Aveda products, I eagerly jumped at the chance!
Take a look at what I tried, and what I thought.
Shampure shampoo approx. $9 for 8.45 ounces
I had been looking for a long time for a good, everyday shampoo that would leave my hair clean, soft, and manageable. Shampure lives up to my expectations, and it smells great! Unless you have very oily or very dry hair, this is a great shampoo for just about everybody.
Elixir Daily Leave-on Hair Conditioner approx. $9 for 8.45 ounces
As many of you have read, I have fine hair that is also a bit on the dry side in the winter. I usually stay away from leave-in conditioners because they either don't condition enough, or they weigh the hair down so it's looks greasy. Naturally when I tried the Elixir and really liked it, I was surprised! Elixir has a light consistency, almost like a styling gel, so it doesn't weigh the hair down. It left my hair very soft and manageable without looking stiff or sticky. If you have short to medium length hair that is fine and a bit on the dry side, this conditioner is definitely worth trying.
Self Control Hair Styling Stick $15.50
Don't let the deodorant-stick packaging scare you - this product is really for your hair! I was very skeptical at first, until I tried it. "Self Control" is a sort of gel and anti-frizz product all rolled into one. You can either run your hands along the surface of the stick and apply, or apply the product directly to the areas where you need smoothness, control, or lift. You only need a little to get great hold that lasts all day.
Witch Hazel Medium Hold Hairspray approx. $9 for 8.45 ounces
I have actually used this product numerous times before ever getting my own bottle, because my stylist uses it every time I get my hair cut. This time I actually got to experiment with it at home! This spray has a distinctive scent from the witch hazel that makes it less flowery or sweet than most other hair sprays. The hold is good for a simple hair style; if you need something really industrial strength, this may not be the best choice. I like it because it holds well without being sticky or stiff.
All Sensitive Shampoo $10 for 5.7 ounces
If you have a tight, sensitive scalp that gets itchy and easily irritated, this shampoo is a welcome change that will really make it feel better. My husband has suffered from a sensitive scalp for years, but this shampoo really made a difference.
All Sensitive Conditioner $12 for 5.7 ounces
This light, moisturizing conditioner is for all hair types. It leaves the hair soft and manageable, as well as conditioning and soothing the scalp.
All Sensitive Styling Gel $8 for 5.7 ounces
Most hair gels can be irritating to someone with a sensitive scalp, since the alcohol can be very drying. This gel contains no alcohol and has a nice" slip" to it, so it makes the hair very manageable without being stiff or sticky.
Purescriptions Volumizing Finisher spray
Like most hair thickening sprays, this one is just like hairspray. It does make your hair look and feel thicker, but it also feels a bit stiff, with little movement or swing. Unless you have a short style that needs lift, longer hair styles will look weighed down and stiff with this spray.
Phomollient styling foam $12.50
Aveda's new Phomollient is so hot the Aveda stores and salons can't keep it on the shelves! Phomollient is really great for any kind of hair - straight, curly, frizzy, flat, whatever! For naturally curly, wavy, or frizzy hair, Phomollient gives soft control and definition without stickiness. If you like to wear your hair straight, Phomollient works to smooth and condition the hair to control frizz without stiffness. If you want soft, moveable hair that holds the style you want, look for Phomollient at your favorite Aveda lifestyle store or concept salon.
