Basis
report by Heather S. of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
I was pleased to have the chance to review Basis products (found at your local drugstore) as they just created new packaging for their products, and I am sucker for good packaging!. Basis is manufactured by Beiersdorf Inc., makers of my favorite Nivea products, and of others, popular in both European and North American markets, such as Eucerin, Atrix, and Labello.
Cleaner Clean Face Wash (approx. $4.39 for 6 ounces)
This cleanser is suggested for normal to oily skin. I have normal to oily skin and found this cleanser to be pretty drying. The soap-free cleanser contains various botanicals which are probably responsible for the intense burning sensation in my eyes when some of the cleanser made its way there. I think that this cleanser would be more suitable for someone with oilier skin, if anyone.
Face the Day Lotion (approx. $7.03 for 4 ounces)
I must say that I was much more impressed with this day lotion. It contains SPF 15 (very important) and is oil free. For an oil free moisturizer, this one does a great job. Most oil free moisturizers I have tried in the past have dried out my skin (imagine a moisturizer doing that), so you can imagine how I liked the performance of this one. I would not recommend using this moisturizer over the above cleanser, however, since it is not strong enough to counteract the drying effects of the cleanser.
All Night Face Cream (approx. $7.03 for 2 ounces)
I also liked this night cream. This would be a great night cream for someone with normal to oily skin; it would not be hydrating enough for someone with dry skin. The cream contains AHA's and green tea extract, but I don't know the percentage of AHA or what exactly green tea extract is supposed to do. It does feel great on the skin and works for me. Again, I would not recommend using this over the Basis cleanser, since it is not hydrating enough to counteract the drying effects of the cleanser.
