When I saw the ad for the latest foundation from Clarins, Ultra Satin (£16), in one of my "women's magazines", I knew I had to run right out and get a sample. Well, not only did I get a sample, but I bought a bottle of the stuff! I've been using it for over a month now, and am very happy with it. The benefits are:

• Coverage that looks sheer and light, but is still decent at evening out skin tone and covering blemishes.
• A nice smell (always a must!)
• Anti-pollution complex to protect against free radicals from pollution, etc. Clarins claims this is exclusive to them, but many designer foundations contain either some sort of sunscreen or anti-pollution ingredient.

Additionally, Clarins Ultra Satin Foundation has a creamy but light texture which is equally easy to apply with sponge (provided in the box) or fingers. (I prefer applying foundation with my fingers, as most of it seems to disappear into the sponge rather than on my face!)

The only complaint I have is that there is a limited range of shades, five or six, which is very limited in today's market. I hope Clarins has plans to bring out more shades. I'm a pale blonde, and the "01" shade, the lightest, was barely a match for me.

Note: It is important to gently shake the bottle every now and then, as, if you don't, you'll get a bit of separation in the foundation between the colour and the clear liquid (oil? Or water?).

All in all, a good foundation choice for those of us with less than perfect skin who nevertheless want to adopt the latest trend for sheer looking makeup.
