Dermalogica Travel Set
report by Adele of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

I had heard about Dermalogica from a friend but thought it sounded a bit too strong for my liking. However when I discovered that it does not contain alcohol, mineral oil or lanolin and is safe to use on all skin I decided to buy the travel set at £24.50 ($39). Inside the small bag there are 8 different items including two face sponges and a product directory - it is ideal for the first-time user.

Essential Cleansing Solution 60ml
This is a white lotion which doesn't have much of a scent but does feel silky on your skin - it is actually recommended for dry to ultra dry skin, so I used it very sparingly as I have normal/combo skin. I can't say that I found this any different to normal high street cream cleansers and wasn't impressed.

Skin Prep Scrub 22ml
I did not like the smell at all! I don't know if you agree but I think there is nothing worse than applying a foul smelling product to your skin, especially to your face. Contrary to what you might expect from the ingredients of ground corncob, aloe gel and cucumber the smell is sulphur-like and overpowering. Also, I found the grains a bit too rough for my skin - this is a definite "no-no" in my opinion.

Gentle Cream Exfoliant (Sachet)
I liked this better than the skin prep scrub. It felt finer in texture and my skin did feel a lot smoother after use making it well prepared for toner and moisturiser.

Multi-Active Toner 60ml
I loved spritzing this on my skin - it made me feel "wide awake" as soon as I used it! It's extracts of lavender and balm mint smell great. One thing though - I had to be careful when spraying directly onto the face as a couple of times my eyes started to nip and then water.

Intensive Moisture Balance 22ml
I thought this was ok and like the cleanser it didn't feel any different from the high street versions. It is recommended for dry skin and was a bit too rich for me…I would, however, like to try the Active Moist or Skin Smoothing Cream, which would be more suited to my skin.

Shine Therapy Shampoo (Sachet)
I loved using this shampoo. I sometimes suffer from a dry flaky scalp and this shampoo helped to cool down my scalp and made my hair feel really clean. The extracts of Ylang Ylang and Eucalyptus add to the fresh smell.

Silk Finish Conditioner (Sachet)
I found this terrific - it complemented the shampoo making my hair and scalp feel really clean and cool and it had the desired effect of conditioning leaving my hair shiny and silky. I liked it so much that I bought the full size version at £10 ($16).

The good news is that suppliers of Dermalogica will, where possible, fill your travel pack with products specifically recommended for your particular skin.
