report by Alissa of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
This time of year always brings out the shine in my skin. So I decided to take Contrôle, with Lancôme's Contrôle skin care line for oily skin. I tried three products in the line - a cleanser, toner, and a mattifier. Here are my results:
Pur Contrôle Deep Purifying Cleansing Foam (4.1 oz., $18.00)
This cleanser is similar to L'Oréal's Shine Control Foaming Cleanser, but I liked this product better. If you can take the extremely strong fragrance (think floral to the max), then you will like this cleanser from Lancôme. The pearliscent cream turns foamy and leaves the skin squeaky clean. Be forewarned, however, that this cleanser is not oil-free, believe it or not. The one plus is that I have used this product for a week and my skin has not broken out (soybean oil is the second to last ingredient on the list). This is a good summer cleanser for those who have shine at this time of year or for those who have a heavy shine problem all year round. Like I said before, the major drawback is the overwhelming fragrance. If you are sensitive to heavy fragrances, skip this, otherwise, give this cleanser a try.
Tonique Contrôle Mattifying and Purifying Toner with Mineral Powders (6.8 oz., $18.50)
Tonique Contrôle was okay. Nothing great, but nothing bad. This product is also not oil-free, but I did not have trouble with breakouts. Unlike like a regular toner, this one contains powder, which is supposed to help keep shine at a minimum. If you like this type of toner, but don't want to spend the bucks, try L'Oréal's Shine Control Toner. It's almost an identical product. I don't think Tonique Contrôle helped to keep my shine under control any better than any other toner I have used. Let's just say I wouldn't buy this again.
T. Contrôle Instant T-Zone Mattifier Oil-Free Powder Gel (1.0 oz., $22.50)
Yes, it is oil-free! This is a great product. The gel-like consistency turns into a powder when you rub into your skin. The mattifier kept my skin matte, without drying it out. You can use this product alone or under makeup. It didn't interfere with my makeup and kept me shine free for a good eight hours (no need for touch ups). I would highly recommend this product if you are looking for an oil-free, lightweight product to keep shine at bay. Of all three products tested, this powder gel was the best and the one I would purchase again.
