Luzier
report by Aina of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
I was contacted by a Mary Kay-like Company called Luzier Cosmetics. They sent me a ton of their skincare products. Here's what I tried.
Milk Cleansing Lotion ($11)
According to the catalogue they sent me, this is the cleanser for normal or combination skin. The milky cleanser was supposed to be pourable, but I found it to be really thick. It is non-lathering and removes makeup fairly well. I just didn't feel "clean" after I rinsed it off. It seemed like there was a film on my face. I probably would not buy this cleanser. My skin is combination, but more on the oily side, so the cleanser was a bit too emollient for me.
Cleansing Gel ($11)
This cleansing gel was great. The clear pink gel foams lightly and removes makeup and dirt and mascara easily. My skin was left feeling clean and not dry at all. The only quip I had with this gel is the fragrance, lightly almond scented. I got over the fragrance, though and overall really liked this cleanser and would recommend this for all skin types.
Skin Freshener (fragrance free) ($9)
I really didn't see what this skin freshener for dry skin did at all. Since it had no fragrance, it basically felt like water. I noticed nothing extraordinary about this product at all.
Moisture Light Balancing Lotion ($11)
This is an oil free moisturizer for oily skin. It looks light and pearly in the bottle. It feels great going on and a little goes a long way. My skin felt just a little dry in the cheek area, and I found to be great for under makeup. It has no fragrance. I really liked it but now that the weather is cold, it doesn't suit me.
Moisture Fresh lotion ($11)
I really liked this lotion. It's a very basic moisturizer. The one negative observation I can make about the moisturizers I tried is not one of them have a SPF The descriptions of the other creams in the catalogue don't mention a SPF either. I'm starting to get more concerned about sun protection as I'm entering my late 20's and realizing that being African American does not exclude a person from sun damage.
Cellular Wrinkle Therapy (CWT) ($22)
I really didn't care for this cream, which is supposed to be used under your nighttime moisturizer. My feeling was this could be the night cream. It was very emollient. When I used it under the Crème L'Unique, my skin felt too oily and looked too shiny. The creams felt very heavy. Plus there was no way of telling if the CWT was working on my wrinkles since I really don't have any. I don't think you can tell by a sample if this product will work in the long term.
Crème L'Unique ($17)
This is a heavy night cream supposedly for all skin types but to rich for my combination skin. I woke up shiny in the morning and when I used it with the CWT underneath; I was downright greasy in the morning. Not for me. I did not have one breakout with these products however.
Alpha Hydroxy Skin Treatment ($16)
This was a gray, foul-smelling, thick gooey mess of an AHA cream. It made my face oilier than before I applied. Most of the samples I received were very generous - not this one. I had no way of knowing how this was affecting my problem spots. I really didn't see any change.
Alpha Hydroxy Plus ($18)
This was a much, much better version of the AHA treatments. It has 8 1/2% Glycolic Acid, so one would probably see more of a difference sooner. It is non-greasy and gave me no adverse reactions to my skin at all. I would definitely recommend this AHA instead of the regular AHA product.
Lumar ($11.50)
This is what they call their signature product. This "green cream" is a multi-purpose hand cream, facial night cream, or even as a balm for minor burns, scrapes, rashes - even diaper rash. I used it as a hand cream and liked it a lot. It can also be used as a facial massage cream once a week. I liked it best as a hand cream.
That about wraps up my Luzier experience. The prices are reasonable, and most of the products I would use again, I'm just not in the habit of mail ordering. Who knows, I just might pick up a few things if the mood hits me.
