MAC Pro-Preferred Skin Care
report by Heather of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
For years I have been waiting for MAC to come up with skincare that is comparable in quality and function to their cosmetics, and they have finally done it! Pro-Preferred Skin Care is MAC's new baby, and quite an improvement over the old products. In addition to the products I've reviewed below, the line also includes a gel cleanser, a lotion cleanser, a traditional cold cream cleanser/makeup remover, an eye makeup remover, pre-moistened cleansing wipes, an oil control lotion, and oil blotting papers.
Strobe Cream ($25 for a 1.7oz. tube)
While I am impressed with the vast improvements in the MAC skin care line, I can't figure out why they created this product. To compete with Prescriptives Magic or Estee Lauder Spotlight? Why, when they already have the Hyper Real collection of outstanding foundation and color mixers?? I suppose if you have completely flawless skin and never have a need for even the sheerest foundation, Strobe Cream could be a fun and subtle shimmer product for you, but let's be real - how many people do you know with skin that fabulous? Strobe Cream does have some benefits like green tea extract, grape extract, whey protein, and lactic and linoleic acids, so it's a bit like a treatment, but I still say go for the Hyper Real instead and get more bang for the same amount of money (Hyper Real sells for $24).
Fast Response Eye Cream ($25 for a .5oz. tube)
MAC has hit the jackpot with this eye cream. It's no miracle
worker - what can you expect from a cream anyway? - but it's
incredibly fast-absorbing, silky smooth on the skin, lightweight
but effective for dryness and fine lines, and smells deliciously
of cucumber. If fines lines are starting to creep up on you,
this is a nice moisturizer to keep them at bay.
Scrub Mask ($16.50 for a 3.6oz. tube)
I have been waiting for what feels like an eternity for MAC to
revamp their skincare, and they have finally done it! The new
line is simple, straightforward, and I think very promising. I
plan to have a more complete review soon, but for now I want to
share my thoughts on the scrub mask. I keep mine in the shower
as it really performs best as a scrub (I found it to be rather
thin for a mask). It's clay based with teeny tiny jojoba beads
and a dash of menthol for a fresh, tingly feeling. It's gentle
enough to use every day in the shower if you wanted (that's what
I do), and I like that you only need a pea size blob for your
whole face.

classic, at the MAC website. It even has online ordering!
