Prescriptives Skin Care
report by Sondra of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

Just like any modern American woman, I have tried numerous skin care lines. Some are good, and some are bad. Well, just my luck, I was able to try the Prescriptives skin care line for free! We're talking full-size products here. I was fortunate enough to do some promotional work for Prescriptives at my local Nordstrom and for my time and effort, I earned $600 worth of Prescriptive products. So naturally, the first thing I ordered was the skin care products for oily skin. There are two sets of skin care items by Prescriptives. The first is called "PX Daily" and the other, "PX As Needed."

"PX Daily" skin care products are for everyday use.

All Clean Sparkling Gel For Oilier Skin ($18.50, 6.7 oz)
This is one cleanser that I really enjoyed. It's oil-free and non-stripping for oilier skins. It controls and normalizes the oil in your skin, which really does leave it fresh and clean. This cleanser has a green, fruity smell and it lathers well. I used this mostly during the hotter months, when my skin goes into "oil overdrive." Even though I got this product for free, $18.50 is quite steep to pay for a cleanser. So, if you're not up to spending a lot of money for this cleanser, I would recommend trying Basis Cleaner Than Clean gel cleanser instead. It's also for oily skin, but you can find it for around $4.99 at your local drugstore or discount cosmetic store. It's the same, if not a "rip off" of the Prescriptives brand.

All You Need Action Moisturizer For Oilier Skin ($32.50, 1.7 oz)
This moisturizer is at best fair, in my opinion. It's not the best I've tried, but it's effective. It's suppose to provide continuous moisture and gentle exfoliation (contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids). The only problem I had with this one is that if I used it over a long period of time, say six months, I'd start to break out. I used this product when I had nothing else around. I'm glad I didn't spend money on it.

Line Preventor 3 ($45, 1 oz)
Line Preventor is oil-free, but it's supposed to go along with the cleanser and the moisturizer whether you're dry, oily or in between. It's suppose to guard the skin against "free radical damage" caused by UV light, smoke, and pollution. According to Prescriptives, everyday use improves the appearance of existing surface lines and prevents visible signs of aging. Well, personally, I really didn't see a "difference" when I used this product, even though I have friends who swear by this stuff. If you're interested in using Prescriptives products, I would skip this one, especially if you're fairly young. Maybe when I'm older this will be something I'll go for.

"PX As Needed" skin care products are what you may need when you have a nagging skin care problem that needs to be taken care of right away.

Comfort Lotion ($30, 1.7 oz)
I can actually say that I liked this product a whole lot better than the All You Need moisturizer for oily skin. Comfort Lotion is for skin that's oily and sensitive. It was lightweight and a little went a long way. It's perfect as a basic moisturizer for "younger" skin. If I didn't get it for free, I would actually buy this. It was wonderful!

Blemish Specialist ($17, 1 oz)
If you're like me, you'll get an occasional pimple every now and then. Blemish Specialist was created especially for "grown-up" skin. It serves the same purpose as the pimple cream you used as a teenager, only this one's more expensive! I would usually go for a cheaper brand, but I did find that this lotion actually works! A little dab with a cotton swab on the localized area goes a long way.

Purifying Scrub ($18.50, 3.6 oz)
This scrub serves a dual-purpose as a mask and/or an exfoliator. I actually use this one as an all-over body scrub and it really gives my skin a nice healthy glow!
