Urban Decay Urban Defense Skincare
report by Nava of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel
I am such a huge fan of Urban Decay's bold, in-your-face cosmetics, that I
was a bit surprised they took such a minimalist, no-nonsense approach to
their new skincare line. However basic the products may be, they do their
jobs well. Here's what I've tried:
Zen Cleanse 2-in-1 Cleanser & Toner ($15 for a 5 oz. tube)
This is another cleanser that reminds me of my beloved Origins Mint Wash. It is a green gel that gently washes away dirt and makeup without leaving your skin dry and tight. You don't get that much foam for your money, but you get enough for the price. I highly recommend this.
Detox Cocktail Antioxidant Complex ($16 for a 4.25 oz. bottle)
This product is supposed to "calm, balance and remove environmental impurities." It contains green tea, vitamins A, C, E, aloe, chamomile and echinacea. It is not a moisturizer, but is meant to be used underneath one to perk up and protect the complexion. It has an interesting gel-cream consistency, and the directions suggest to apply it with a cotton pad. Fingers work just as well, using less product.
Guardian Angel Protective Oil-Free Moisture, SPF 15 ($20 for a 1.7 oz. tube)
This is the real star of the line. If you battle the shinies, but
like to wear a moisturizer with SPF under your makeup - run, don't walk for
this one! The oil-free version leaves a nice, matte finish, will not
aggravate those over-active sebaceous glands, and will protect your face from those nasty UVA/UVB rays (with skin friendly Parsol 1789). I'm already on my second tube! There is also a version for drier skin types.
You can find Urban Defense Skincare online at Urbandecay.com and Sephora.com
. It is also in most Sephora locations, and at Urban Decay counters in Macy's and Bloomingdales stores.
Happy Shopping!
